Paper Samples

Paper Samples

I Love Paper. I can’t imagine living without it. Holding a book or a magazine with my hands, the smell of fresh ink, the texture, the color… paper is everywhere and we use it all the time in our daily lives.

Technology is taking a huge role in the way we communicate, e-mail, blogs, electronic newsletters and PDF documents just to mention a few. How many times we read at the end of an e-mail “Please save a tree. Don’t print this e-mail”. But what if you want to print it? If you need to highlight key points or simply because you prefer to read from paper and not only from the screen?

I think is not a matter of age. Young generations these days manage technology much better than seasoned professionals, but even businesses that are up to speed on the latest and greatest technology know that a successful advertising campaign or communication with customers can work better with a combination of mediums.

As an example, by giving your customers something tangible like a brochure, you are creating an emotional connection, an experience. They will feel it as something of value. They will go to your website and other social media where you have a presence by reading your web address on the printed piece. Or by starting a promotion with a direct mail letter that leads to download an e-coupon or to enter a code on your website. Everything is connected now.

Printing and utilizing paper is not as evil as it sounds lately.

Last week, I attended a presentation trough the AIGA. As part of a successful campaign, Domtar Paper provided us with interesting information about the use of paper.

Some of the facts Domtar provided are:
– It’s easier to learn on paper.
– It’s one of the most recycled products on the planet.
– Well-managed, FSC certified forest guarantee that future generations will be able to experience nature, not just read about it.
– Paper creates jobs in communities where people need them most.
– Opening a nice envelope is surprisingly exciting.

In this age that technology and e-mails have replaced a more personal touch between people, sending a handwritten thank you note is a nice touch, but sending it inside a beautiful and personalized envelope, can go beyond that.

You may want to praise your awesome employees with an award, or you will have a very special event and created beautiful invitations but need to personalize the envelopes. You could do it with a laser printer, but imagine the impact that a gorgeous envelope can create on the recipient.

For years, artist and designer Alan Michael has been creating works of art. A simple envelope with a nice paper becomes so special that you will like to frame it. He has developed new techniques in calligraphy that go beyond the ordinary. He applies those techniques to a variety of mediums.

Visit his website and see for your self what he can do for you or your business, after all, good clients become friends and good employees part of the family, they deserve that something special… this will create stronger links.

The Little Match Makers

Movie Poster

“The Little Match Makers” is an independent film that was presented at the 2011 San Diego Indie Festival. It was the winner of the Best Feature Film. My client Cinema Verde asked me to design the logo and poster for the movie. This was a fun project since the movie is a great family oriented comedy and the producers are a pleasure to work with.

The logo treatment reflected the idea to match two hearts that didn’t know each other. Red was the selected color, the color of “Love”. The photography was planned with the concept of the poster in mind. The design was applied to a One-Sheet, 2 poster sizes and a Duratrans display.

If you live in San Diego, you can’t miss this movie at the Ultra Star Cinemas in Chula Vista. Showtimes are 6:00 PM and 8:30 PM on April 14th. You can find more information at their website.

Watch the trailer and have fun!

Best of Green 2011

Treehugger announced the winners for best of Green 2011 in different categories including food and health, cars and transportation, travel and nature, business and politics, culture and celebrity and fashion and beauty.

The last one shows that Green can be stylish. We find products that use eco-friendly fabrics, production with solar power, unscented hair care products, recycled materials, etc. The new Eco-Fashion.

In some way or another, companies are making efforts to contribute to preserve the environment, directly on the manufacturing process or taking small steps to put in practice at the office, like recycling paper or not wasting water.

The word “Green” is everywhere these days, but when someone uses it only as a marketing tactic, something can go wrong. Consumers are learning more and more when something is real and products with false statements can get a bad reputation.

Enjoy the slide shows on this link. You will find interesting ideas if you are thinking about ways to make your products more friendly to mother earth and the people.
